A major leap forward for Evion – and for Europe’s clean energy future

Evion Group’s flagship Maniry Graphite Project in southern Madagascar has just been officially recognised by the European Union as a Strategic Project under the EU’s Critical Raw Materials Act. This is a significant milestone in the project’s development and a strong vote of confidence in both its quality and its role in supporting Europe’s battery and clean energy supply chain.

Why this matters

Being awarded Strategic Status under the Critical Raw Materials Act positions Evion as a preferred future supplier of natural graphite to the EU – a material essential to battery technology and Europe’s long-term energy goals. It also opens the door to major benefits, including:
  • Access to funding and grants from EU-supported institutions
  • Priority in permitting and regulatory processes, reducing delays
  • Stronger partnerships with European offtake buyers and financiers
  • Greater visibility across the global critical minerals sector

Maniry is the only project in Madagascar to receive this status, underlining its strategic importance and our commitment to delivering a reliable and sustainable source of natural graphite.

What’s next

We’re now focused on finalising permits and licensing with local authorities, progressing discussions with EU stakeholders, and securing offtake and funding partnerships that will help bring Maniry into production.

This award also aligns with recent infrastructure upgrades in the region, including the EU-funded Kiembe Boulevard connecting Toliara Port to the airport – a vital freight route for export.

We see this as a turning point not just for Evion, but for the future of responsible resource development in Madagascar. It’s another step towards becoming a key contributor to the global energy transition.
